According to the latest statistics, there are 236 venture capital institutions in Shanghai, holding funds amounting to Rmb30.4 billion, accounting for 45% of the national total venture capital of Rmb66.38 billion. At present, the total value of Shanghai's venture capital funds ranks top in China. In its venture capital market, a diverse venture capital setup combining government input and guidance and social venture capital participation with domestic and foreign investment has taken shape.
Shanghai to Become China's Venture Capital Hub. Shanghai will soon permit foreign private equity and growth capital firms to establish wholly owned subsidiaries or Sino-foreign joint ventures in the city. The rules and regulations are expected to be promulgated in a month or so, at which time this new opportunity will be clearer.
